Hits and Misses
Over the break I went to the Daytona 500. The Daytona 500 is a nascar race that is in Daytona, Florida. In the racing season the Daytona 500 is the biggest race of the year. It is also the first race of the year, which makes the sport very unique. In each race there is three stages. The first two are 80 laps and the third is 60 laps. The winners of the stages get points and the winner gets points. Also, if you lead a lap you will get points. This a brand new system for points that nascar did this year.
I have been going to the Daytona 500 for five years in a row now. I always go with my grandpa and dad. We always used to go for Jeff Gordon, but he retired last year. Now me and my dad go for Chase Elliot. My Grandpa likes Chase, but he like Kasey Kane more. This year we are also trying to go a race in Alabama or Texas. The races are super fun and we hope to go again for many more years.
This is one of the free post blogs that were assigned for a weekly blog. This is defiantly one of my hits because I am talking about something that I know a lot about.
My project is on the man who discovered King Tut's tomb and many others. His name is Howard Carter. The only reason that King Tut is so famous is because he discovered him in the twentieth century. Howard Carter even has his own museum named after him. Before he was an archeologist he was an artist. He also worked for the Egyptian Government.
Howard Carters most famous discovery is King Tut. He found the tomb in the valley of the kings. When they found the tomb it took ten years to completely search it. In the tomb he obviously found mummy and many gold statues and other valuables. Overall, I think that Howard Carter is the most successful archeologist in the twentieth century.
This is another one of my hits because I am talking about my research project. I put a lot of detail and effort into explaining Howard Carters background.
My strategy for Purple Hibiscus was to annotate. I would try and get one to two underlined important parts of the page. Then I would write a caption of why I underlined. That is what I did for the first two bread and butter assignments, now I do the reading responses. Annotating for every single page gets very time consuming. A challenge that I am finding is the time that it takes for me to read very night, so that is the main reason that I switched.
Now since I am doing the reading responses I read the chapters still annotating, but with only underlined parts every couple of pages for the really important parts. Since we are finishing the book on Tuesday, we won't be able to to this. But I think for the next book we should not have a chapter due, so people can catch up on reading. I couldn't read a chapter one day in the middle of the week because of homework and it was so hard to come back from that.
This is another good writing that I had this year because I was talking about a book that we read in class this year.
I had a hard time choosing three different misses. One of them I know for sure, the poem. The poem was a blog that we wrote. Another bad piece of writing that I had this year was my person narrative. This is also why I am doing my revision on this. My last miss was my research paper. I didn't do that good on citations and that I was main reason the I didn't get the grade I wanted.
